Baton Rouge Ferry Landing - 1938 Fonville took this beautiful photograph from the Port Allen side of the river. Author Ben Forkner, whose book "Cajun" featured Fonville's photo, said of it, "I am still fascinated by its mystifying hovering balance of movement and repose". Enough said. Although many ferries still cross the Mississippi in various parts of Louisiana, the Baton Rouge / Port Allen ferry ceased in 1969 when the "New Mississippi River Bridge" was completed.
